What Is Bonsai

The Japanese practice of growing and sculpting tiny trees in containers is known as bonsai. The word “bonsai” (Japanese: 盆栽) literally means “potted plant”. This art form has been practiced for more than a millennium in Japan, with a significant influence of Japanese Zen Buddhism on its development.

The creation of an accurate, tiny replica of a mature tree in the wild is the main objective of bonsai. This includes using many methods to regulate the tree's growth and shape, like wiring, pruning, root reduction and grafting. Bonsai trees are not genetically dwarfed, they are regular trees and shrubs that are kept small through meticulous cultivation.

Bonsai is appreciated both for its aesthetic beauty and the meditative practice it offers to the grower. It’s a blend of art, horticulture, and philosophy, making it a unique and rewarding hobby.
